Music is a focal point of any event. Music is a great mechanism for us to be able to connect with one another. It encourages us to share a part of ourselves through various styles of dance. The DJ (also known as the Disc Jockey) is an individual who will be playing the music and entertaining your guests. Believe me, there is a lot of talent that goes behind the selection of the music and the transitioning. The DJ is going to make your night a memorable experience with your loved ones. He or she will have a wide range of genres that they are able to play and keep the crowd going all night long.
Prices tend to vary from DJ to DJ and if you find a considerably cheaper one, be aware. There is a difference between competitive pricing and cheap pricing. I understand that many brides and grooms are on a budget however spending an extra couple of bills on a talented DJ can really make your reception a night to remember. Many brides and grooms have felt that they could have saved a few hundred bucks on other things and put that towards the music instead. Do NOT be one of those couples! Cheap DJ’s tend to
be new to the business and may not be as skilled as the ones who may charge significantly more. From my personal experience, they are unable to keep the momentum going and there are some awkward pauses during the event. It is essential to hire someone who is comfortable and has the experience so he or she will be able to take care of your wedding entertainment and ensure it flows well. There are also a few overhyped DJ’s that are not great either so be on the look out. Ask family and friends or even people in the industry for recommendations and do your research before going ahead with certain individuals. Remember, it is YOUR big day!

What can you do to ensure your reception goes smoothly? It is integral to have a meeting prior to the event with the DJ so you are able to see if this person is best suited for your reception. You need someone that matches your personality and the vibe you are trying to go for. You may ask for samples of their work or ask them to perform for you if you are uncertain. These meetings will also give you the opportunity to discuss the necessary components and sign a contract on the agreed terms. You should also discuss the timelines of the event and inform them about any playlist or requests you may have for that night. DJ’s are also willing to accommodate your requests during the event as well.
I can’t stress the importance of hiring a professional DJ. Do your research, spend an extra bill or two if you need to. Do NOT cheap out on the music. This is the person who can make or break your wedding so make sure you choose wisely.
